ITANAGAR, Jul 24: The APWWS and Adi Baane Kebang (Women's Wing) demanded immediate arrest of Joint Commissioner Tax and Excise, Tani Jongkey, who allegedly molested a minor girl.
The APWWS questioned the Police Department for taking more than 19 days to arrest Jongkey, and sought immediate arrest of the culprit and early investigation, stating that many such similar cases are not being reported.
The organisation urged the parents and concerned adults to report such cases to the appropriate authority.
The organization also demanded establishment of Child Rights Commission on priority basis.
Condemning the incident in its strongest term, the ABK (WW) also demanded that the law enforcing authority expedite the investigation and punish the paedophile as per law.
"The alleged offence as described in the FIR filed by the victim's family is of very serious and heinous nature. The perpetrator of such offence deserves severe punishment so that no one dares to commit such crime in future," it said.
It also urged the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights and the State Commission for Women to ensure prompt investigation into the case so that justice is delivered to the victim.
The ABK (WW) also expressed its deep sympathy and solidarity with the family members of the victim.

Head Gaon Burah killed by motorcyclist
BASAR, Jul 24: Bam village Head Gaon Burah, Goken Bam was killed in a motorbike accident on July 23, following which an irate mob reportedly burnt the motorbike which caused the accident in the heart of Basar town on Monday.
The Head Gaon Burah was reportedly killed after a motorcyclist hit him from behind at around 4 PM on July 23 last.Goken was immediately rushed to the CHC Basar, but succumbed to his injuries within an hour.
Reportedly, there were three riders on the motorcycle, who have been identified as Pawan Bdr Chetry, Prenanda Borah and Jyotishman Gogoi. The three were caught by the villagers and handed over to the police.
Further, the body of Goken Bam was sent for post mortem on July 24 and later handed over to the relatives of the deceased. Soon after receiving the body, a mob went down to the Basar Police Station and took out the motorcycle used by the alleged culprits and burnt it down in the middle of Basar Town.

ROING, Jul 24: With the opening of the Dr Bhupen Hazarika Bridge that connects Assam and Arunachal, there has been a surge in tourism inflow at Roing town.
The first Sunday after the bridge's opening came as a shocker as the roads were jammed right from the market area to the Eze River, causing one of the worst traffic jams the town had ever seen. Now, it has become a usual thing, especially during the weekends.

"We have had tourists coming in from states,like Rajasthan, West Bengal and the larger masses are from different parts of Assam, like Jorhat, Silchar, etc. On an average day, we receive about 35 to 40 tourists, which can go up to more than 60 or so during weekends", informed Mihu.
Most tourists visit the Eze Park and the EzeRiver, so Mihu and his team are operating from outside the park.
Body recovered from Papum River
ITANAGAR, Jul 24: One Nabam Tagap of Kanebung Village under Sangdupota Circle is suspected to have drowned in Papum River. His body was found on Monday at Boroighat under Behali Police Station, Biswanath district, Assam by the locals.
Tagap, who was a former Gram Panchayat Member of Kanebung Villager under Bassarnallo Circle, went missing at 3 PM on Sunday when he went out for fishing. Frantic search operation was launched by villagers but they failed to locate him.
Upper Balijan ZPM Gollo Takam has appealed to the state government to compensate the family members of the victim.
Confirming the incident, Papum Pare DC,Tai Kaye said that Sangdupota EAC, Nabam Tagik had alerted him early this morning about the incident.
District administration carried out search operation with the help of local police, SDRF and villagers.
Kaye said that on the request of the Behaliunit police after registering necessary entry, they had handed over the body, which is now being brought to Kanebung village in Sangdupota circle.
Rescue team yet to trace passenger
YINGKIONG, Jul 24: A team of Upper Siang district unit police and NDRF personnel, along with district administration has been unable to trace a female passenger, who along with five others were on board an SUV taxi(Tata Sumo) which met with an accident on July 19 last between Ranaghat to Mariyang road at Sizon area of Mopom Circle.
During the joint operation conducted on Sunday, the rescue team was unable to retrieve the body as the Yamne River was in spates.
However, earlier on July 20, the rescue team under the supervision of SP, Amulya Borauh and DSP, Tapang Tatak recovered a dead body from the river and saved four persons, who were later admitted to Late Bakin Pertin General Hospital at Pasighat. (DIPRO)
Panchayat leader voices for DRDA employees
ZIRO, Jul 24: Lower Subansiri Zilla ParishadChairperson (ZPC), Hage Kobin appealed to the state government to look into the demand of the agitating DRDA employees as he expressed fear that the indefinite strike launched by them would badly affect implementation of rural development programmes.
The ZPC said that the DRDA employees, who have been playing a crucial role in effective implementation of vital schemes, like MGNREGA, IAY, PMAY (G), IWMP, PMKSY etc, should not be deprived of their service benefits.
Moreover, most of the beneficiaries of these schemes happens to be the families belonging to below poverty line, he said, and appealed to the state government to find a permanent solution to their demands.
Meanwhile, the DRDA employees of Lohit met Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Minister, Dr. Mohesh Chai and submitted a memorandum urging him to take up the matter with the concern authority for early solution of their long pending demands.

We have only one highway connecting the twin cities. Here, a visitor faces crescendo,

As a concerned citizen, I wonder what your ministers are doing regarding all these basic issues. Don’t the ministers feel the way we feel? Every day 99% of your ministers and leaders drive in and out of this lone highway. The road side dumped garbage has become the centre of attraction for all.
I wonder whether the authority realizes the sudden upsurge in crime and social imbalances. I wonder whether they debate on our state’s poor literacy rate, poor medical facility and quality of life.
To be frank and to be true, most of the properties of the city belong to political leaders and bureaucrats. Most of the lavish vehicles honking for way even on the congested road belong to them.
All of us have travelled between Itanagar and Naharlagun at night. Wonder what will happen if your car stops midway between the twin cities during a dark cloudy night. You will see no sight of light out there. The whole road lurks in darkness as soon as the sun sets. Not even a single electric pole has electricity connection in it. It’s so risky to travel at night. That part of road needs modification, rectification and electrification. It’s so shameful that we are unable to maintain the only highway of the state.
Technological fitness is necessary but structural and administrative fitness is much more vital for a remote state like ours.
